Housing around an urban farm with community hub in Namur

In Jambes (Namur), Equilis is leading the development of Le Grenier de Bellevue, a pioneering neighbourhood designed as Belgium’s first cooperative market-garden district. This large-scale regeneration reflects Equilis’ expertise in shaping inclusive, sustainable and community-driven urban environments - combining environmental ambition, social innovation and a clear governance model.

Structured around La Grange, its urban farm and community hub, the project redefines how people live, move and share resources within a resilient, nature-based framework.

Key Highlights
  • HPD Exemplary: a benchmark project where ecology, well-being and inclusion guide every design and construction decision.
  • Beyond-standard biodiversity – CBS scores above 0.5 (for individual plots) and 0.6 (for collective blocks) achieved through pocket forests, native hedgerows, permeable surfaces and water-retention landscapes.
  • Urban farm “La Grange”: the cooperative heart of the project: local food production, short-circuit economy, learning and community events, all supported by a long-term governance framework.
  • Rethought mobility: car-light district designed around shared streets, soft-mobility routes and active-mode connections, creating a calm, accessible and child-friendly environment.
  • Low-carbon and circular design: adaptive housing typologies, biodiversity corridors, inclusive public spaces, and participatory tools (resident charter, workshops, citizen walks) ensuring local ownership and continuity.
