On the historic grounds of the Missiehuis monument (1924), Equilis transformed a former missionary institute into a new residential neighborhood surrounded by greenery. Located on the edge of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park and just minutes from Haarlem, the project blends heritage conservation and contemporary housing. Contemporary apartments are integrated within the monumental building, and surrouned by new houses and pavilions. Equilis took special care to integrate all the designs seamlessly with the park landscape.
By combining gas-free living, nearly zero-energy standards and the reuse of demolition materials, Missiehuis exemplifies how obsolete heritage sites can be transformed into living spaces and sustainable places for modern happy communities.
